The Dishwasher

What’s the schedule for today?

Throughout the day:

  • Work on shipping abroad

  • Post those things I need to post

Oh, and the DSA needs assessment… and I need to finish that show.

I need to finish that email that they sent me, fill out the form that-

‘Holly, -a- —- do —e -i—wa—er?’

What?

Oh, question. What did Mum say?

‘Pardon?’

Based off of what I heard, she’s probably asking me to do something…

What words could be made from those noises? Gimme a moment to fill the gaps…

‘Can you-’

‘You want me to do the dishwasher?’

‘Yes'

Okay. Can I fit that in? Check the schedule. No set times for most of the items. Dishwasher takes a few minutes. I can do the task.

‘Okay’

I will forget if I don’t set a reminder… Let’s set an alarm on my phone.

Oh, there are loads of finished reminders here. I ought to clean it out. Can I do that now or should I set an alarm? Set an alarm to delete alarms… rather counter-intuitive. That’s a cool word, lots of vowels.

Set the alarm. Done.

What was I doing? Right. I need to message people… I need to respond to that email… the deadline is getting closer. But how do I phrase a response? I still need to do that form. I printed it out, it’s in the printer. I need to go get it from the printer. When should I do that? I could go now. But then the dishwasher alarm will interrupt me. Okay, so I have to remember to do it later. Will I remember? Maybe. Another alarm? No, I just thought I had too many. Okay, maybe I should read through the form to figure out the responses.

Alarm goes off.

That’s not the right tone. Why isn’t it playing music? Oh, I cleared the music from iTunes to clear space. I should add a couple of songs back in. The alarm tone is wrong.

What was the alarm for? Dishwasher.

I need music whilst I’m doing the dishwasher or I’ll get bored. Headphones? Radio? Or straight out of the phone? Headphones are upstairs.

There they are. Oh wait, I need to organise the receipts. I need to charge my Walkman. I need to strip the bed. Can’t do that now, I’m busy.

What was I busy with? The dishwasher. I’ll go do that.

Oh, I left my headphones upstairs. Too late, I’ll use my phone instead. What music? A new album? One I know all the words to? Yes, Arctic Monkeys. I know all the words.

Okay, open the dishwasher, open all the cupboards to make it easier.

Can’t carry too much or I will break something. I kept breaking glasses… I hate doing that. Too clumsy.

Oooh I love this song. STIM. No. Can’t stim whilst holding glass or it will break. Put the glass down.

Okay, onto the top layer…

The cupboard is closed. That’s wrong. I opened it. It should be open. It needs to be open. Who closed it? Why did they do that? They should have left it alone.

Okay, breath in and out. They didn’t do it on purpose. Not their fault. Just put the glasses down and open the cupboard. The kitchen area is too busy for the glasses. Find a spot.

Finally, the dishwasher is empty. I need to go fill out that form. I’ll grab it on the way back to the lounge.

Oh, here’s the cat! So fluffy. I want to carry him to the lounge so he can sit on my lap. I’ll get the form another time.

Alright. Done. Phew.

‘Did —u r—e—er to —fi— it?’

‘Pardon?’

I didn’t notice I was being talked to… Replay the noises to find the words.

‘I said, did you remember to refill the dishwasher?’

…dammit.
